As Valentine Day draws near, my heart begins to flutter with anticipation. It's not just about the chocolates or the roses--it's about the joy of crafting something special, something heartfelt, for the incredible people in my life. While some may see Valentine's Day as a celebration reserved for romantic couples, I see it as a beautiful opportunity to express love and appreciation for anyone who holds a special place in my heart. And what better way to do that than with handmade cards, crafted with care and creativity.
This year, I'm diving into my crafting stash while using the new Heart Shaped Stamp Set and Dies --a delightful freebie available during Stampin' Up!'s January/February Sale-A-Bration event with a $60 or $120 purchase. These heart-shaped stamps and dies are the perfect tools to create elegant, yet simple cards that speak volumes. Whether you're a seasoned crafter or just starting out, these designs are easy to put together and exude a timeless charm.
The Magic of Mixing Old and New
While the Heart Shaped Stamp Set and Dies are new this season, I've decided to pair them with some of my retired products. Why? Because sometimes, the old and the new come together in the most magical ways. The Sweet Sorbet Cardstock and a sheets of hearts from the Country Floral Lane Designer Series Paper from my retired stash blend seamlessly with these new stamps and dies, creating a harmonious balance of nostalgia and freshness.
The results? Cards that are not only quick to assemble but also sophisticated and polished. The layouts I've designed are versatile, offering two slightly different approaches to crafting your cards. Each design is adorned with delicate Pearl Hearts, adding just the right touch of elegance. And the best part? The stamp set includes sentiments like "hello," "because I care," and "thank you," making it a versatile set for crafting cards long after Valentine's Day has passed.
First Layout: A Symphony of Hearts
Let's start with the first layout, a design that's as sweet as it is simple. The foundation of this card is a base of Sweet Sorbet cardstock--a soft warm hue that sets the tone for the entire design. If you don't have this particular cardstock on hand, don't worry! Use Real Red and dig into your retired stash for hidden gems where you may find Real Red heart prints or small white flower prints among you gems. Next, layer a piece of Basic White Cardstock creating a clean, crisp matte for your designer series paper. For the next layer, I found a sheet Sweet Sorbet with a repeating pattern of tiny white hearts in Country Floral Lane Designer Series Paper (now retired). This repeating pattern adds interest without overwhelming the design.
Now for the heart of the card--literally. Using the Heart Shaped Dies, I cut two hearts from Sweet Sorbet Cardstock these hearts are layered onto a Basic White panel, slightly offset and overlapping for a dynamic dimensional effect. Tto add even more depth, I glued only a few spots of the hearts to the Basic White layer, allowing the leafy edges to lift slightly for a 3D appearance.
For the sentiment, I chose a phrase from the Heart Shaped Stamp Set and heat-embossed it in white onto a Sweet Sorbet label, also cut with the dies The sentiment is popped up with Mini Dimensionals and placed off-center at the bottom of the hearts Finally, I added two Pearl Hearts from the retired Pearl Hearts collection, adding tiny treasures to the design.

- Basecard: 4-1/4 X 11" Folded to 4-1/4 X 5-1/2"

Second Layout: A Subtle Twist
The second layout is a variation of the first, with a few subtle changes that give it a unique flair. The base layers remain the same--Sweet Sorbet Cardstock and Designer Series Paper Topped with a Basic White panel. But this time, before adding the heart die cuts, I used a Blending Brush to lightly apply Sweet Sorbet ink to the center of the white panel, creating a soft gradient background where the hearts will sit.
The sentiment is stamped directly onto the Basic White layer in Sweet Sorbet ink, nestled into the lower corner for a more understated look. The two heart die cuts are then layered onto the pane, slightly offset as before. To finish, I added two Pearl Hearts, placing them strategically to complement the design
