Double Decker Pop Out Card using Stampin' Up! Zoo Crew Designer Series Paper

If you've seen these double-decker cards all over social media, you're probably wondering how they're made.  I watched a video from the very talented Demonstrator, Susan Campfield, and then gave it a try.  Its easier than it looks, and once I started, I couldn't stop making them!  For this card, I used the Zoo Crew 12" X 12" Designer Series Paper and Ribbon Duo Combo Pack from the Stampin' Up! Zoo Crew Suite. The backside of this paper includes several satisfying black and white prints.  The front side includes several cute, zany animals having fun.  I used a color theme of Basic Black and Lemon Line Twist with Basic White.  The images are cut from the Zoo Crew Paper, and I used one of the Black & White prints on the back of the designer series paper on my basecard.  I also used the Metal Plate 3D Embossing Folder on the two left side panels, and 1/8" Lemon Lime Ribbon from the Ribbon Duo Combo Pack, that is also part of this suite.  I knew this card was a winner when my husband commented that this was a great card!

The basecard for today's card is  a 5-1/2 X 8-1/2' Basic Black Cardstock, scored at 2-1/8, and 4-1/4 along the long side .  Then I dry embossed two 1-7/8 X 5-1/4' Basic Black Cardstock panels using the 3D Metal Plate Embossing Folder, and attached them to the two left panel.  On the right panel, I added a 4" X 5-1/4" Black and White print from the Zoo Crew 12" X 12"  Design Series Paper. 

Once the base card was finished, I created the middle deck pop out mechanism for the inside of the card.  To make this pop out mechanism, I cut a Basic White piece of Cardstock that was 3" X 2-1/4", and scored it along the long side at 3/4", 1-1/2" and 2-1/4" .  Next, I used my Bone Folder to crease the folds of the pop out mechanism.  I added Tear & Tape Adhesive to the two outer panels, then positioned the opening along the fold line of the back panel, removed the Tear & Tape Adhesive backing, and stuck the two edges to the back and middle panels.   I then added Tear & Tape to the mechanism panel facing up.  I then added the 3" X 4-1/2" Lemon Lime Twist Panel that forms the middle deck to the pop out mechanism, carefully lining up the Lemon Lime Twist layer with your back panel so it creates an even boarder around the Lemon Line Twis layer.  Remove the adhesive tape backing and press your middle deck onto the pop out mechanism. You'll want to leave a very small gap instead of butting the Lemon Line Twist deck against the Basic Black layer, so the mechanism has room to move.  (See small white gap in the photo below)

To create the top deck, I matted at 2-3/4 X 3-3/4" Basic White panel with a 3" X 4" Basic Black matte.  I stamped Lemon Line splatters behind the alligators image, using a stamp from the Layer Leaves Stamp Set.  However, you'll find that several other stamp sets include splatters that you could use instead.  Then I fussy cut the alligator image out of the Zoo Crew 12" X 12" Designer Series Paper and mounted the image on Dimensional before adding it to my card deck.  The Zoo Crew Suite also includes the Zany Zoo Dies that can be used to die cut the alligator and several other animal images, and the Zany Zoo Stamp Set includes this same alligator image and several other animal images if you don't have the Designer Series Paper.   I used Tear & Tape Adhesive along the left edge of the top deck layer to attach it to the card front, leaving the right size loose.  Position your top deck layer over your second deck layer before adhering leaving an even boarder around the top deck. (See photo of closed card).    

To finish my card, I created a sentiment tag with flag end, and stamped a sentiment from the Darling Details Stamp Set using Tuxedo Black Memento Ink.  I tied a knot in the1/8" Lemon Lime ribbon from the Ribbon Duo Combo Pack, and added it to the sentiment tag.
