The Open Sea Digital Hybrid Birthday Card

I was playing with My Digital Studio digital software a few days ago and printed out a few of the papers from Nautical Expedition and images from The Open Sea Stamp Brush set.  Both are from the Summer Mini Catalog, which ends Aug 31. (Edit:  Great news!  Stampin' Up! just announced that this popular set, The Open Sea , will be available until July 2012!  You can order the wood mount under item # 123030 or the clear mount under item # 123032) End Edit)  I didn't have any plans for the items I printed until I realized I needed a birthday card for my brother in Minnesota this week.  It took me less than an hour to design this hybrid card using both digital images and traditional embellishments. Complete. Stamped. And in the mail.

Recipe:

  • Stamps:  Digital Download:  The Open Sea Stamp Brush Set (124112)
  • Ink:  None.  I used digital downloads for the sentiment as well
  • Paper:  Almost Navy, Whisper White. Crumb Cake,  Digital Download:  Nautical Expedition Designer Series Paper (124111)
  • Accessories:  Cherry Cobbler/White Baker's Twine (123125), Stampin' Dimensionals, Spiral Boarder Punch (retired), Paper Snips

Here's the inside of the card.  Again, I choose a design from the Nautical Expedition Designer Series Paper digital download, printed it on white paper, selected a few more digital downloaded images from The Open Sea Stamp Brush Set and printed them on Crumb Cake cardstock.  I matted and mounted each and I was done with a fast, easy card.

I think this makes a great masculine card.  I love the new digital downloads that Stampin 'Up! releases each Tuesday for My Digital Studio.  It is a great way to "have it all" from each new catalog release without taking up walls of storage space.  I now order some traditional stamps and papers, and some digital downloads from each new catalog.  I love using them both!  For more ideas on using digital downloads, be sure to visit and register on the My Digital Studio Site.  You can see the entire catalog of digital downloads (see the Resources button at the top of the My Digital Studio home page), plus find answers to your My Digital Studio software questions.  Be sure to register on my blog to receive notification by email when the link to the new Holiday Mini catalog is released Sept 1.  You'll find great holiday digital downloads that will pique your imagination as we move into the fall Holiday months.

Digitally Inspired Printed Petals

Sometimes you have an idea in your head that you just can't find stamps that fit your card.  I knew what I wanted when I created this card, but I just couldn't find the right size flower stamp among all my flower stamps.  So, I turned to My Digital Studio and resized one of our current flower stamp images to create the size I needed for this card.  I think it worked!

I printed 5 of the flower images in the size I needed for my card onto Very Vanilla cardstock.  While I was in My Digital Studio, I came across this "Easter" sentiment and added that to my page of flowers.  I often print our additional sentiments while I'm setting up a page of images from My Digital Studio.  That way, as I'm working on cards, I can quickly reach for extra sentaments and make two or three cards with different sentiments while I have all my supplies out for the card I'm creating, maximizing my time in my Craft Loft. I added the largest size pearls from the Basic Pearl Pack to the center of each flower.  I thought about using the Vanilla Rosettes (118774) from the Occasions mini catalog (pictured in front of the card), but I liked the simplicity of the card without them.

What I used:

Stamps:  Surprise!  None, but I used images from these stamp sets in My Digital Studio:
My Digital Studio Images:   Printed Petals (flower), Well Scripted (Easter)
Inks: Always Artichoke, Marina Mist (Used on My Digital Studio Images)
Papers:  Pattern Designer Series Paper Stacks - Regals (117154) Always Artichoke Polka Dots, Very Vanilla, Springtime Vintage (Occassions Mini Catalog)
Accessories:  Decorative Label Punch (120907), Large Oval Punch (119862), Basic Pearls, 5/8" Marina Mist Satin Ribbon
