Stampin' Up! 2016 Retiring List is live
It is that time of year at Stampin' Up! The large catalog introduced a year ago is retiring and the list of retiring stamps and everything else is now available. If any of your favorites are on the list, you know the drill. Get them while they are still available! Once they are gone; they are gone. Retiring products are available until May 31st or until they are gone.
This is a great time to pick up some bargains as some retiring products are discounted up to 50%. For example, the Mini Muslim bags (132180) are 40% off and Project Life Happy Times Accessory Pack (138452) is 50% off. I needed a couple of masculine cards this week. One for my bother's birthday and one for my dear husband who has had to put up with me and my oversize shoulder brace after rotator cuff surgery. Even with the awkward brace I've managed to spend a few hours each day in my craft room. I'm hoping the precision cutting and pendulum swings while using the paper cutter count towards exercises for my healing shoulder. Dear husband has helped remind me to take my meds, do my exercises,and has run to Wal-mart for more ice to keep the swelling down in my shoulder. He's fashioned plastic coverings for my wound so I can shower, he's crafted coverings for the pressure points jabbing me from all sharp corners of the arm brace. What demented doctor invented these awful braces, anyway? Could they make them any less comfortable? So I made him a special thank you card letting him know how grateful I am for his special care. (Love that man... I really picked a good one )

Once I finished stamping the bi-plane image, I used my Wink of Stella glitter pen to add a small amount of bling to the plane and to the dark lines on the maps.

I also make up some treat bags using another stamp from the Honeycomb Happiness set and the Honeycomb Embellishments (140566). This is a fun set for spring birthdays or garden parties.

Here's a closer look. I stamped the cone, made tags using the Scalloped Tag Topper punch (133324) and the Banner Triple punch (128292). The striped papers is Pool Party from the Designer Series Paper Stacks, And the top of the bags are closed with Metallic Foil Doilies (138392), Bermuda Bay Thick Baker's Twine, and Clothespins (133764).

One more fun treat bag I made for Easter used the Polka Dot Cone Cellophane Bags (140678) from the Occasions catalog, which means they're available until May 31. I used them for Easter, but I also plan to use them for treats for other occasions this Spring.

Botanical Builder Framelits dies create lovely cards!
I've been waiting until after Valentine's Day to play with the new Botanical stamps and framelit. Using a couple of the wonderful designer papers in the Love Blossoms Designer Series Paper Stack, I created the card below.I used a white gel pen to outline the flower and added some dots to the flowers to add more interest.

Late Valentine! This is a CASE of Wendybell's card on Splitcoast. I got up Valentine's morning and realized I didn't have a card for my dear husband. The design, layering, choice of papers and stamps and embellishments couldn't have been more perfect. The burlap ribbon turned a feminine card into a perfect masculine card.
This season, one of my favorite new colors is Tip Top Taupe. That's what I used for the base card. I've also found that the 6X6 paper packs offer such a great selection of designs. Lots of textures and lots of layers...lots of fun! As soon as I finished, my wonderful husband asked me to go for a walk with our dog and enjoy the 72 degree "winter weather" in Houston. Ummm, I love living here after growing up in frigid Minnesota winters.

Precision plate and Big Shot Die Brush!
I've been playing with Precision plate and die brush with some of my detailed dies...and I love the way the Precision Plate and die brush makes these detailed thinlit so much easier to use. In fact, I cut a bunch of detailed thinlits in different color to have on hand for fast card making when I'm crunched for time.
This card was so fast and easy to make, yet looks complex I cut the Striped Scallop Thinlet and then the Project Life Cards and Lables Framelit and then simply trimmed the Striped Scallops down to fit inside the frame. Lots of textures and lots of layers...lots of fun!

I must say that the new Big Shot Die Brush really helps you get rid of all the little pieces in these two thinlits. I highly recommend the brush and the Precision Base Plate for the best results for detailed dies.
Watch this video and learn how to use the Precision Plate with detailed thinlits to make this card. To compliment the Precision Plate, you'll also want the Big Shot Die Brush, which I know you'll "need" for quickly removing small pieces from your detailed thinlits.
