Card Ideas Using Stampin' Up! Free As A Bird Stamp Set

The Free As a Bird Stamp Set also comes as a bundle which includes the Stitched Nested Labels Dies, however, for today's card, I'm using the Stitched Shapes Dies for a change of pace.  Don't get me wrong, I love the new Stitched Nested Labels Dies.  This is another new suite in the annual Stampin' Up! catalog.  Its called the Bird Ballad Suite and you can check it out on pages 90-92 in the catalog.  If you love working with Blends Markers or Watercolor pencils, you'll love this set.  But don't be scared off if you don't, because many of the images in the stamp set are also available in the Bird Ballad Designer Series Paper already colored.  Relax and do a bit of fussy cutting, or use the papers as backgrounds, as-is.

This card is based on a card I saw from another Elizabeth Price, from Seeinginkspots.com.  I love the soft colors, especially the new Purple Posy background with the Petal Pink.

The cards uses Purple Posy as its basecard.  Then a layer of Whisper White.  Then another layer of Purple Posy.  Then for the image layer, I die cut a circle using the Stitched Shapes Dies out of Petal Pink.

The birds were stamped in Tuxedo Black Memento ink and then colored with blends.  One of the larger birds was stamped using the mirror image technique, which I demonstrated in this recent blog post.

The birds were colored with Light Petal Pink Blends, Light Calypso Coral Blends, Light Daffodil Delight Blends, and Light and Dark Crumb Cake Blends.  The branch was colored with Light and Dark Crumb Cake Blends.  The Leaves were colored with Light and Dark Granny Apply Green Blends.  The flowers were colored with Light Petal Pink Blends and highlights of Light Calypso Coral were add.

The sentiment from the Free As A Bird Stamp Set was stamped in Tuxedo Black Memento on the Purple Posy layer.  All of the birds, flowers, and leaves and branches were fussy cut.  I'm hoping Stampin' Up! finds a way to create a set of dies for this stamp set, as the fussy cutting took a long time -- but it was worth it when the card was finished!

Z-fold card using Sailing Home Stamp Set from Stampin' Up!

  • Sailing Home Stamp Set
  • Smooth Sailing Dies

Stampin' Up! Sailing Home Bundle

The Sailing Home bundle includes the Sailing Home Stamp Set and the Smooth Sailing Dies.  Its sure to become your go-to stamp set for Masculine Birthdays and Special occasions, or for that family that's always at the ocean or lake once you see how many different elements this suite,--called the Come Sail Away Suite--includes.  Check it out on pages 144-146 of the annual Stampin' Up! Catalog.  You going to enjoy making cards, samplers, and scrapbook pages using this set.

This was a swap card that I received from another demonstrator,  Dorene Decibus that I modified as a birthday card.  However, Dorene's original card is perfect as a Father's Day card for your husband or a Father or Grandfather that headed you in the right direction in life.  My grandfather was a carpenter, with 18 children living in a very small town in Western Minnesota.  He had a carpenter shop behind his home that my aunt, who still lives in the family home as kept in his memory.  This time of year I miss him greatly as we start planning family reunions, which as you can imagine, include a very, very large collection of aunts uncles, cousins, nieces, and nephews.

Card idea using the Stampin' Up! Sailing Home Stamp Set

The cards are created on a Night of Navy basecard.  Then a long piece of Balmy Blue creates the base for the front panels and the inside folds.  The panels use different prints from the coordinating Come Sail Away Designer Series Paper Pack. The final panel is Whisper White stamped with the compass image in Night of Navy ink so you can write a short message and sign the card.

Changing elements and sentiments in your card creates cards for different uses.

The photo above show the inside panels of the two card laid flat.  You can see how you can use the same basic card design and customize it for different occasions by changing out the elements and the sentiment.

The card uses die cuts that were stamped in Night of Navy using the Sailing Home Stamp Set.  Then they were die cut using the Smooth Sailing Dies.  The corner of the card front's sentiment is accented with one of the Sail Sway Trinkets and a bow made from the coordinating Navy and Sahara Sand Twine.

If your undecided between getting the Sailing Home Stamp Set or the Good Morning Magnolia Stamp set from an earlier post, my advice is, "get them both".  You won't regret how much use you get out of these two wonderful new sets.
